The Amy Yee Tennis Foundation is proud to award Brenda Vong with a $500 scholarship at Cleveland High School's "Talons" awards event for athletes on May 20. Brenda has been involved with promoting tennis in her community and playing on the Cleveland High School tennis team. She has been team captain and has several league titles under her name. The foundation recognizes her dedication and support by being a volunteer at the Amy Yee Legacy tennis clinics the past 3 years. Pictured above are Carl Bergquist, Amy Yee Tennis Foundation Program Director, Brenda Vong, and Roger Yamaguchi, Cleveland High School Tennis Coach.

Our success lies with volunteers who help on court as an instructor or assistant off court performing administrative tasks such as set-up and participant check-in. Volunteers play a significant role in helping kids have fun learning tennis in the spirit Amy Yee and Gordy Yee. Pictured above is a representative group of some of our volunteers. Please send email to address below to receive a notice of volunteer opportunities at our upcoming June-July-August programs.

In Amy's name, the foundation continues to introduce free tennis to school age kids without prejudice in and around Beacon Hill. For decades, Amy Yee and son Gordy conducted tennis clinics and their legacy lives on. There was a pause of nine years with the passing of Gordy in 2008, but the free clinics restarted in 2017 with support from the Amy Yee Tennis Center and foundation volunteers who knew Amy or in some way touched by her spirit. This June of 2026 marks our 10 year anniversary since 2017 in honoring the legacy of Amy and Gordy Yee.

Each Saturday, many of our amazing volunteer admin and instructor staff arrive an hour early (before 8a) to prepare for our 100 plus participants throughout the morning. The winning formula of having parents participate on court with their child, especially the 6-8 age group has been successful in terms of fun and learning. We also encourage and love that some experienced high school players help guide the younger ages before they themselves receive a solid dose of tennis drills and coaching. The foundation and parents thank the Seattle Parks and Recreation, AYTC, and especially our volunteers and private donors in supporting foundation objectives.
